The leaked draft of the supreme court majority’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade has put the decadeslong debate between conservatives and progressives over abortion rights back in the news.
The United States has traditionally been anti-abortion as this Supreme Court opinion reads, “Until the latter part of the 20th century, such a right was entirely unknown to American law. indeed, when the fourteenth amendment was adopted, three-quarters of the states made abortion a crime at all stages of pregnancy. ”
But Roe v. Wade ruling in 1973 changed all that forever. No event that has a significant impact on history happens out of nowhere. So why did Roe v. Wade happen in anti-abortion America?
