President Biden’s climate envoy, John Kerry, visited China twice this year to try and reach a climate deal with the Chinese Communist Party, but failed. Kerry announced recently that he would soon make a third visit. Why would the government go to such lengths to try and secure a climate deal when it faces so many challenges already; from the border crisis, to the pandemic. The sudden release of Meng Wanzhou last week was also seen as Biden trying to ease relations with the CCP in exchange for its cooperation on climate issues.
